Vanila Ann Cochran, 79, Oceanside, California, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016.
Viewing will be Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Eternal Hills Mortuary 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, California. Funeral Service will be held December 1, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at The Oceanside Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1943 California Street, Oceanside, California. Graveside Service will be held December 2, 2016 from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Eternal Hills Mortuary.

Vanila was born January 24, 1937 in Vaitogi, American Samoa as the daughter of Iole and Lafo Liu. She attended high school in Waipahu, Hawaii, and graduated Hawaiian Mission Academy.

Vanila joined the US Marine Corps where she met and married the love of her life, Donald E. Cochran. They resided in the states of Virginia, Illinois and California through their married years. Vanila was a loving wife and mother and committed 43 years in civil service as a Comptroller.

Vanila was a devoted woman of faith attending the Oceanside Seventh Day Adventist church as a founder member. After marrying and living in various states, she returned in 1993 and served as their treasurer. Her heart for missions proved to be unwavering as she supported many on the mission field and attended over 6 mission trips to Micronesia.

Vanilla is survived by her three sons John, Mark, Donald Jr; grandchildren Chelsea, Corie, Jenay, Chancelor, Kenny, Chapman, Caylynne, Chynna, and Chole; and siblings Peter Liu, Misimua (Susan) Schultz, and Ruth Unutoa.


Arrangements are under the direction of Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Mortuary, and Crematory, Oceanside, California.
