Valentin (aka "Ben") Rodriguez was born on November 3, 1927, in his parents' house in San Diego. His parents were Pedro and Alejandra, both from Mexico. He attended Oceanside High School and Palomar College in San Marcos, where he developed a keen talent for photography and drawing.

He served in the Navy from Nov. 1945 to Oct. 1947, where he was a Seaman First Class. Later, he joined the Marines, where he served from July 1950 to July 1951. He made it to the rank of Sergeant. He served in tank company C...

Valentin (aka "Ben") Rodriguez was born on November 3, 1927, in his parents' house in San Diego. His parents were Pedro and Alejandra, both from Mexico. He attended Oceanside High School and Palomar College in San Marcos, where he developed a keen talent for photography and drawing.

He served in the Navy from Nov. 1945 to Oct. 1947, where he was a Seaman First Class. Later, he joined the Marines, where he served from July 1950 to July 1951. He made it to the rank of Sergeant. He served in tank company C ("Charlie"), and fought in Korea.

Val moved to Oceanside and married Mary Ruiz on Dec. 19, 1959. They had 2 sons: David (b. Jan. 22, 1963) and Steven (b. Nov. 10, 1964).
Val worked at Camp Pendleton as Lead Warehouseman for 30 years, retiring in 1988. In his later years, he enjoyed woodworking, photography, and traveling the globe. He visited such places as Italy, France, England, Spain, Greece, Scotland, Ireland, Central America, and South America.

His wife Mary passed away in 1991. Val never remarried. He passed away on Feb. 26, 2015. He was 87.
