Michael Samuel Stokols PhD, age 78, of Irvine, California passed away in his home Saturday morning, November 19, 2016 at 11:40 am. Michael valiantly battled Lewy Body Dementia for over 5 years within the loving support of his family. Although he gradually became more impaired, he never stopped taking delight when he saw his children and grandchildren, his brother, his nephews and the rest of his family and his friends.

Michael Samuel Stokols PhD, age 78, of Irvine, California passed away in his home Saturday morning, November 19, 2016 at 11:40 am. Michael valiantly battled Lewy Body Dementia for over 5 years within the loving support of his family. Although he gradually became more impaired, he never stopped taking delight when he saw his children and grandchildren, his brother, his nephews and the rest of his family and his friends.

Michael was a licensed clinical psychologist who practiced for over 50 years both in private practice as well as with New Beginnings, Raleigh Hills and most recently Pacific Hills Treatment Centers. Following retirement in 2010, he enrolled as an AmeriCorps member and served in the California State University WECARE program serving frail and elderly persons throughout Orange County. He was a member of the Irvine Jewish Community and more recently of University Synagogue where he was member of the synagogue choir.

Michael was proud to participate in the UCI MIND Institute longitudinal study on dementia. Memorials can be sent to support that study (see below)

Michael is survived by his wife of 46 years Adrienne Stokols, his son Stephen (Ann) Stokols, his daughters Shula (Nick) Pollard and Haley (Mike) Didonato, his grandchildren Tyus Stokols (9), Kaylin Pollard (8), Trevor Pollard (6), Serena Stokols (6), Damen Didonato (4), Leo Stokols (3) and Jayce Didonato 1.5); brother Dan (Jeanne) Stokols and nephews Eli Stokols and Andrew Stokols. He is also survived by Mother-in-law Frances Anderman, Aunt Selma Stokols, Uncle Henry (Bernice) Stokols and cousins Sheldon (Irene) Reitman, Debbie (Ray Ellis) Swichkow, Jerome (Carol) Feldman, Danny Swichkow, David Feldman, Marcy (Pearl) Vaj, Mark (Niki) Stokols, Myrna Reitman, Bernard Swichkow, Rashalee Swichkow, Marleen (Dean) Didech, David (Barbie) Stokols, Shari (Steve) Raskin, Jeffrey Stokols, Bruce Stokols.

The funeral will be held gravesite at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside at 11:00 am on Friday, November 25. Pallbearers will be son Stephen, brother Dan, nephews Eli and Andrew and sons in law Nick and Mike.
