Oceanside - Elijah Watkins, age 76, passed away on October 8, 2016, at his home after a long battle with his compromising health issues.

Elijah was a Veteran of the Vietnam War and he earned several medals including the Navy Achievement Medal for Outstanding Performance as a non-commissioned officer-in -charge in the military Department of the Naval Aviation Schools Command.

Elijah was born December 25, 1939, and grew up in Roanoke, Alabama. He was the son of JW Watkins and Caffie Watkins. As a child, he was very protective of his siblings. Per his sister Nancy," he didn't take no mess."

He joined the Marine Corps at 18 years old and served his country for 31 years. He loved and was so dedicated to the Marines. He was a man of few words and kept to himself often observing his surroundings and those near him. He had a way with words, when he did speak. He was an honest and compassionate man. He loved his wife Loretta from the moon and back and she reciprocated his love. Her husband was and always will be her best friend. Loretta will miss those walks on beach and their private conversations. She took her marital vows seriously and dedicated everything she had in making sure he was taken care of, even sacrificing her own health needs. Loretta was by his side when God called him home.

Elijah was preceded by death by his parents and 8 of his siblings. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Loretta, son Shaun and daughter in law Neda, daughters Sofia and Briggett along with son in law Alvin. Also, his grandchildren Shavonne, Malaia, Marissa, Niala, Victoria, Kamrin, Hunter and his wife Megan and great grandson Devin. He has one surviving brother Robert Watkins and sister Nancy who reside in Roanoke, Alabama. He also has nephew Greg and Kaysha Gordon and numerous nephews and nieces. Included as well are his sister in law D. Watkins, brother in law Charlie Daniel, God children Sherrod Boyd, Michael and Heaven Linton; and many other relatives, family and friends.
